Where the Olympic Games were born
Ancient Olympia sits in a green river valley in the western Peloponnese, and for more than a thousand years every Olympiad began here. Walk the sanctuary of Zeus, stand on the starting line of the original stadium, and see the workshop where Pheidias sculpted one of the Seven Wonders. The archaeological museum’s Hermes of Praxiteles is a highlight on its own.
This is the longest of our classic day trips, made comfortable by a private air-conditioned vehicle, hotel pick-up in Athens and a scenic route across the Corinth Canal and along the coast.

Yes, but it is our longest classic day trip: 321 km each way and about 12 hours door to door with a 07:00 start and a return around 19:00. The vehicle is private and air-conditioned, and we build in a comfort stop each way. If you would rather not do it in a day, the same route works as part of a multi-day tour with a night in Olympia or Nafplio.
About two and a half hours: an hour and three quarters in the sanctuary and stadium and 45 minutes in the museum, followed by lunch in the village. Entrance tickets are not included.
Your driver-guide speaks English, Greek and French and briefs you on the way, but drivers are not licensed to guide inside archaeological sites. A state-licensed guide can be arranged on request at an extra charge.
