Piraeus Shore Excursions: Private Tours from the Cruise Port

Piraeus is the cruise port of Athens, and a port day here usually comes down to one question: how much of Athens, or of the classical sites beyond it, can you see and still be back on board in good time? A private shore excursion answers that by building the day around your ship, not around a coach timetable. Your driver meets you at the port gate, drives you to the sites in an air-conditioned vehicle reserved for your group, and brings you back to the same gate with a margin before all-aboard.

Choose by the length of your port call

Start with your ship’s docking and all-aboard times, then subtract the time it takes to leave the ship and the margin you want before boarding again. What is left is your touring window.

A short call suits the half-day tours. The Best of Athens half day takes 4 to 5 hours and covers the Acropolis area, the Panathenaic Stadium, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Syntagma and Plaka. The Cape Sounio half day takes about 5 hours along the coast road to the Temple of Poseidon, and fits easily inside a normal port call.

A mid-length call opens up the classical sites west of Athens. The Ancient Corinth half day and the Mycenae half day both take 5 to 6 hours door to door and include a photo stop on the bridge over the Corinth Canal. Piraeus sits on the way west, so no time is lost going back into the city first.

A long call of a full day lets you choose the Athens full day tour or the Athens and Ancient Corinth combination, each 8 to 9 hours. Tell us your all-aboard time and we will set the pick-up and, if necessary, shorten a stop so the return keeps its margin.

What is included, and what is not

Every tour includes the private vehicle for your group, pick-up and drop-off at the Piraeus port gate, bottled water and a driver-guide who speaks English, Greek and French and gives you the background between stops. Because the tour is private, you can ask to swap a stop or spend longer where you want, within the same time.

Entrance tickets to sites and museums are not included. Drivers are not licensed to guide inside archaeological sites, so your driver drops you at the entrance and meets you at the exit. If you would like a state-licensed guide inside the Acropolis or another site, ask when you book; it can be arranged at an extra charge.

Can a private tour pick us up straight from the cruise ship?

Yes. Our cruise-friendly tours start with a pick-up at the Piraeus port gate and finish back there. Send us your ship name, docking time and all-aboard time when you book, and we set the pick-up around them.

Will we be back before all-aboard?

We plan the return to the port gate with a safe margin before your all-aboard time. On a short call, choose a half-day tour; if traffic or queues run long, a stop can be shortened so the return stays on schedule.

Does the driver guide us inside the Acropolis?

No. Your driver-guide speaks English, Greek and French and briefs you between stops, but drivers are not licensed to guide inside archaeological sites. A state-licensed guide can be arranged on request at an extra charge.

Are entrance tickets included?

No. Entrance tickets to the archaeological sites and museums are not included in the tour price.
