Athens airport to Piraeus port: route guide

Distance: approx. 40 to 50 km from Athens International Airport to Piraeus port, depending on your gate or terminal
Typical driving time: approx. 45 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes. Times depend on traffic, especially at weekday rush hours and on summer weekends.

How the airport pickup works

  1. Book with your flight number, landing date and time, and your ferry details: company, ship name and sailing time.
  2. We track your flight, so the pickup follows your actual landing time rather than the timetable.
  3. After any passport control and baggage reclaim, your driver is waiting in the arrivals hall, holding a sign with your name on it.
  4. Airport transfers include up to two hours of free waiting. Your confirmation explains when the waiting time starts.
  5. The driver helps with your luggage, walks you to the car and drives you directly to your ferry gate, cruise terminal or Piraeus hotel.

Ferry gate, cruise terminal or hotel?

Piraeus is a large port, and ferry passengers and cruise passengers use different facilities: the Piraeus Port Authority lists its coastal ferry gates separately from its cruise passenger terminals. Tell us your ferry company or cruise line and the ship name when you book, and the driver drops you at the right one. If you are spending a night in Piraeus before sailing, give us the hotel address instead.

The gate used for a particular island is not fixed forever, so check the gate shown on your ticket, or sent by the ferry company, close to your travel date, and keep any update with your travel documents.

How much time to leave between landing and sailing

Work backwards from your ferry operator’s boarding deadline, not the departure time. Add the drive (approx. 45 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes) and a margin for traffic. On the airport side, allow for leaving the aircraft, any passport control, baggage reclaim and walking to the meeting point: a scheduled landing time is not the moment you are ready to leave.

Flight tracking and free waiting help us collect you when your flight is late, but they cannot guarantee a ferry connection, and we cannot change a ferry operator’s boarding rules. If missing the sailing would spoil your plans, consider a later ferry or a night in Piraeus. Our airport-to-ferry planning guide walks you through it step by step.

Athens airport to Piraeus port: frequently asked questions

How far is Piraeus port from Athens Airport?

Approx. 40 to 50 km, depending on your gate or terminal. The drive usually takes 45 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes, depending on traffic.

Will the driver take me to my ferry gate or cruise terminal?

Yes. Piraeus is a large port with many gates, so tell us your ferry company or cruise line when you book and the driver drops you at the right one.

What if my flight lands late and I have a ferry to catch?

We track your flight, so if it lands late the pickup simply moves with it, and you get 2 hours of free waiting time at the airport. Leave a sensible margin between landing and sailing, because baggage reclaim and the drive both take time.

Where will the driver meet me at Athens Airport?

In the arrivals hall, holding a sign with your name on it. Follow the meeting instructions in your confirmation, and use the contact details in it if you cannot find your driver.

Is there a surcharge for luggage or night arrivals?

There is no luggage surcharge, no night surcharge and no holiday surcharge. The price you are quoted when you book is the price you pay.

How do I pay, and can I cancel?

You can pay by card online when you book, or by cash or card to the driver on the day. Cancellation more than 24 hours before your pickup time is free; within 24 hours the booking is charged in full. See the cancellation policy for details.
