The ferry from Athens to Mykonos is the easy part of the journey. The part that catches travellers out is the port. Athens has two ferry ports with sailings to Mykonos, Piraeus and Rafina, and they are on opposite sides of the city. A ticket that just says “Athens” can mean either, and turning up at the wrong one on the morning you sail is the most avoidable mistake of an island trip.
This guide helps you match the port to where you are starting from, shows the fixed TransferHub prices to both ports, and explains how to time the transfer around a flight or a hotel check-out. This guide covers the road transfer to and from the port. Your ferry ticket is booked separately with the ferry company, and the departure port is printed on it.
Piraeus or Rafina for Mykonos?
Ferry booking sites list sailings to Mykonos from both ports all year, with more departures in summer. Rafina is a small harbour on the east coast of Attica, close to Athens International Airport, and many of the fast boats to Mykonos leave from there. Piraeus is the main port of Athens, south-west of the centre, with large numbered gates for ferries to the whole Aegean.
Landing at Athens Airport and sailing the same day? Rafina is the natural choice. Our Athens Airport to Rafina port transfer takes about 30 minutes, from €40 per vehicle.
Staying in central Athens the night before? Compare the two. A transfer from your hotel to Piraeus port starts from €33 per vehicle, and to Rafina port from €42, about 40 minutes. If the sailing you want is from Rafina, a private transfer is the simplest way to get there early in the morning with your luggage.
Coming from Lavrio or the south-east coast? Check your ticket carefully; Lavrio is a separate port, and our port transfers overview lists every Athens-area route.

Timing your transfer to the ferry
Work backwards from the sailing time on your ticket. Ferry companies ask passengers to be at the port well before departure, and the busier the season, the more margin you want for finding your gate, especially at Piraeus.
From the airport, the risk is the flight rather than the road. Give us your flight number and we track it, with up to 2 hours of free waiting in arrivals, but a late landing still eats into the time before the ship leaves. Our guide Athens Airport to a ferry: build a realistic connection plan walks through the margins, and if the connection is tight, a night near the port can be the calmer option.
From a hotel, book the pick-up for the time you want to be at the gate, not the time the ferry leaves. Tell us the port, the gate if you know it, your passenger count and luggage. Groups with a lot of luggage should check our guide to choosing a transfer vehicle.
Coming back from Mykonos
The return works the same way in reverse. Book the transfer from the port where your ferry arrives, and your driver waits there with a name sign.
